Currency and cost of life

The national currency is the Dong (VND), available only in the country.

It’s possible to pay in dollars inside the country if no other choice but privilege Vietnamese Dong. To exchange foreign currencies, exchange offices, banks or jewelries are available in big cities.

There are ATMs accepting Visa and MasterCard bank cards everywhere, including in small towns. The highest amount accepted for withdrawal at street ATMs is 4 000 000 VND ($172USD).

The cost of living in Vietnam is very affordable for Europeans. If we take the example of food which is very rich and varied, you can have a complete meal from US$1 to US$4 depending on your choice of food.

Haggling is a common practice to use for virtually all your purchases. It may take time but it is a good time.
