HISTORY
Former Kingdom of Siam until July 20th, 1948, saw its name changed by the Constituent Assembly to promote the dominant ethnic group of the country, Thais.
Thailand is a parliamentary monarchy since 1932, although today the political sphere remains unstable. But it must be emphasized that the country has retained its independence as it’s the only country in Southeast Asia that has not been colonized. Thailand is today the most developed country of South-East Asia thanks to its industry and tourism. Its culture and traditions have been shaped by the Buddhist religion, offering to tourists an incredible range of historical sites.
The King, the nation, and religion are subjected to the same veneration by the people. His Majesty Bhumibol dies in the end of 2016, which has plunged the country into a one year national mourning.
