HEALTH AND SECURITY
Only yellow fever vaccine is required to cross the Laos border, if you come from a contaminated area (parts of Africa or South America) Lao administration keeps the right to ask vaccination proof. That is to say that no other vaccination is compulsory for travelers from Europe, but some vaccines are strongly advised. We recommend you to organize an appointment with your doctor to update your vaccines.
The more you get away from the classic itineraries, the more you need to be careful in term of health. As in all South East Asia, mosquitoes are very guzzler. Don’t forget your mosquitoes repellent and your antihistaminic if you’re subject to allergy. Basic hygiene rules and usual food precautions will preserve you from most issues you could meet in the country.
Laos has gained a reputation as a safe destination for more than 20 years, but it is advisable to remain vigilant. Large areas in Eastern Laos are contaminated with non-deactivated explosive devices, from the last century war.
