TRADITIONAL FESTIVALS

Cambodian festivals are numerous and more or less important, there are religious festivals, commemorations and traditional festivals. The common point of its festivities is sharing, it is a moment that allows the conviviality. Nevertheless, the most important festival in Cambodia is the Khmer New Year.

Khmer New Year (Bon Chaul Chhnam):  It begins each year on April 13 or 14 and ends on April 15 or 16. The New Year marks the end of the dry season. The Cambodians bring offerings to the Vat (pagodas), exchange gifts and new clothes, and they throw water upon one another.
Many commemorations take place during the year to celebrate parts of the story, such as the tribute to the victims of the Khmer Rouge that is made on the day of the genocide in Cambodia on 9 May.
